Unsung Heroes - Cookie Mueller

575.00

From my series "Unsung Heroes" which has toured Melbourne, Gold Coast and Paris. "Cookie Mueller" was 1 of a series of 8 portraits of artists, musicians, writers, actors and cultural icons who have inspired my work over the years - yet are relatively unknown outside of subculture. Each portrait is painted on wood.

Cookie Mueller was an actress in the films of John Waters, starring in the holy trilogy of his early cult movies 'Pink Flamingos', 'Female Trouble' and 'Desperate Living'. As well as writing her own memoirs and poems, she was also the subject of many Nan Goldin photographs, and she and her husband, like so many great artists of the 80s, succumbed to AIDS. This painting mentions many of Cookie's contemporaries, and the quote emblazoned in the work is her own on the subject of HIV/AIDS.

The artwork is an original and absolutely one of a kind. It is made from mixed media (pen, permanent marker, gouache, acrylic, stickers and spraypaint) on wood, and is size 60 cms x 60 cms approx. It is ready to hang.

There are several other works left from this series - please enquire if you would like to see what else I have available.
