CI Ledger - Topsy and The Elephant Hotel Original Art

180.00

Here is a dyptich of Sarah Beetson original art, from my Coney Island Giant Ledger book (please note if you want to buy both panels of the dyptich, you will need to add both the left and right panels to your cart).

This illustration features poor Topsy The Elephant - a real life performing circus elephant who was a Coney Island attraction in the late 1800s, but was publicly executed after a rampage ensuing when a man fed her a lit cigarette. It also includes the infamous Elephantine Colossus - a Coney hotel from the same period which became a brothel and coined the euphemism "Seeing the elephant", plus a kiddie ride from Deno's Wonder Wheel Park that has evolved over the years I have been visiting Coney. It features a line from the novel "The Electric Michaelangelo", about a British tattooist from Morecambe who finds his fortune across the Atlantic at Coney Island.

The artwork is mixed media on vintage 1960s food stock ledger paper, signed and dated on the reverse. Each panel is sized 45 cms x 28 cms - so as a dyptich it is approximately 45 cms x 56 cms.

The materials used to create the artwork include: spraypaint, Pilot G Tec C pens, Acryla Gouache, Turney Acryl Gouache, crayon, copic markers, collage, stickers, dots and stamps.

This is an original art - the one and only. There is no other like it the world over!

It would look great framed as 2 individual artworks, or with 2 mattes in the same frame.
